Fermentation Crock in Wild Clay no. 03

Fermentation Crock in Wild Clay no. 03
Fermentation Crock finished in an iron oxide-colored, texture-rich wild clay exterior and a Grey Sands interior.
Perfect for starting your own sauerkraut, kimchi, and sour pickles.
This fermentation crock makes it easy to create your own raw, probiotic-rich foods. The clay weights hold your food below the surface of the liquid in the crock, while the lid nestles down into a water seal, keeping unwanted spores out.
Please note that these are not tightly fitted lids: they are meant to create a barrier from contaminants, while allowing off-gassing to occur. The water in the well around the lid creates the seal. We recommend filling the water well with salt water, as it is a natural deterrent for bacteria and will not dilute your brine if it overflows into the crock.
Crock: 3 1/2“ tall x 7” in diameter, Interior opening is 4 3/4” in diameter
Lid: adds an additional 1 1/2“ in height
Holds 30 oz at capacity
Hand wash recommended. Do not microwave.
Wheel thrown + hand harvested
Beautiful, yet gnarly. Colorful, but dull. Rough and smooth. Wild clay beautifully exhibits the imperfections of its untamed origin, resulting in a variability of finish and surface texture.
Nestled in the hillside surrounding Sage's home and pottery studio, lies an array of natural materials to be foraged. With a little attention and a lot of curiosity, she crafts wild clay, pigments, and various plant fibers into functional wares of the home. This clay is more than a medium; it is a connection to the land.
Each piece goes through a series of careful steps, with the clay being minimally refined and then delicately layered over multiple firings. This method allows the clay to meld together, transforming into a beautifully finished textured surface that reflects the depth and character of the location it was gathered from.
Raw clay was collected + applied straight from the earth.
