Mixing Bowl (large + medium)

Mixing Bowl (large + medium)

from $190.00

Mixing Bowls in two sizes, finished in Chocolate + Stone.

These bowls are made with a process called press-molding which, simply put, means slabs of clay were pressed into a mold and removed once the shape was formed. This technique allows for a layered effect, in which the edges of each slab are visible where they overlap. This was an opportunity to repurpose slab remnants that would have otherwise been thrown into the reclaim bin. The press molds used in the making of these were a gift from Sage’s nearly 90-year-old (she brings this up every time she sees her) neighbor across the road, Donna, who used to fly Cessnas (and was notoriously only 10 hours away from receiving her license).

Available in:

  • Large — Stone slip exterior with Stone Sheen interior, the full surface of the Large Mixing Bowl is a layered white stoneware slip. The interior food-surface has a thin coating of a clear-sheen glaze, while the outer rim and exterior of the pot is left unglazed. This dish has layered elements of texture, while being fully suitable for food serving. 9 1/4” in diameter x 4 1/2” tall

  • Medium — Chocolate Stoneware, matte exterior + Chocolate Sheen interior. 6 3/4” in diameter x 3 3/4” tall in diameter

Bowl interiors are glazed with a sponged-on clear glaze. The surface is suitable to food preparation, serving, + regular cleaning. The mottled texture achieves two shades of chocolatey brown on the medium bowl interior—where it’s thickest, a lighter yellow-brown, where it’s thinnest, a rich red-brown.

Dishwasher and microwave safe, hand wash recommended.

Lightly oil when color starts to dull and to help prevent staining. Our Stone finish requires extra care when washing. While we appreciate a patina that develops with use and time, please be aware that this finish can become tinted by prolonged exposure to highly pigmented foods or beverages.

*Please Note: Sage’s Porcelain and Stone finishes are a slip finish- which is a super matte, clay finish. Because of the way the slip adheres to the main clay body, it will visually separate in any tight creases or angles. (For example, around handles or spouts.) This is not a functional issue and these are not cracks in the pot, but an aspect to be embraced as this is the only way to create this finish.
